Yearning for Days of Yore

So, my overseas business adventure last week in Eastleigh, UK (southwest of London) and Langen, Germany (just south of Frankfurt) was successful on a number of measures: I learned a lot, I got to hear English accents aplenty, I experienced an all-expense paid trip to Europe (beer included), and I got to do some urban exploration, reminiscent of my gap year between undergrad and grad years. Unfortunately, while it was nice, it was almost a tease to be abroad for only 1 week; it made me yearn for my days as an itinerant wanderer through the streets of Barcelona and as a kibbutznik harvesting pumpkins in the fields before the break of dawn. But, don’t get me wrong — I’m happy with my job and couldn’t ask to be in a better position in life. However, some day, don’t be surprised if I drop whatever “real” job I have, pack a backpack and jetset off to continue to explore the world.

some sadness surrounding food

unfortunately, a food dream has been crushed. the restaurant over which my tastebuds have been tingling (mentioned in the last posting) is closed on sundays. and what day will i be in london? on sunday, yes. murphy’s law kicks in once again. hopefully another restaurant can live up to my high epicurean standards. culinary quest: to be continued…

Business overseas

First business trip in the States — check.

First business trip overseas — almost check…That’s right, I’m leaving on Saturday to go on my first business trip overseas. I’ll be flying into London, and will do some work in that part of the country and then fly to Frankfurt. And the best part is: I don’t have to pay for any of it. Who ever thought working could be so great?

For one, I’m super excited to go to London because one of the dreamiest restaurants ever is there. Friends of mine introduced me to this amazing gem,Books for Cooks, which is doubly delectable, as it is both a cookbook store and tasting kitchen, whose recipes are whipped up from books in the store. The food is mouthwatering, and the prices are surely something to write home about — definitely cheap by British standards, coming in around 8 pounds for three courses: appetizer, entree, dessert.
